Initial situation
The Ministry of Agriculture was founded in 1868 and has played a leading role in the country's policy areas ever since. In 1967, therefore, the publication "100 Years of the Ministry of Agriculture" was published, which presents a well-founded scientific review of the history of the Ministry. The year 2018 marked the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Agriculture - a reason to document another 50 years of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Objective
The publication is intended to provide a well-founded review of agricultural, forestry, water and food policy from 1970 onwards and also to analyse the consequences of EU accession, thus closing the academic gap for an important policy area of the last 50 years. Numerous publications already exist (e.g. Egartner, Sigrid and Resl, Thomas (eds.) (2015). Insights into Austria's Agriculture since EU Accession. Schriftenreihe Nr. 108. Wien: Bundesanstalt für Agrarwirtschaft), which can help to present the development of agriculture and forestry and their importance for nature and environmental protection and to integrate the individual policy areas into the overall social development of the Republic. Furthermore, the ministerial portraits from 1970 onwards are supplemented and time series of important agricultural statistical data are presented.
It is necessary to update what is already available and to have some of the topics presented or supplemented by renowned experts who have already agreed to cooperate. Finally, a compact documentation is to be compiled. Ultimately, the publication is intended to fill a scientific gap for an important policy area of the last 50 years. It could be published as a research report of the Federal Institute of Agriculture and Mining, the financial expenditure is limited, but modest recognition fees for the authors are to be taken into account. The coordination of the entire project and the associated administrative work (correspondence, organisation of necessary meetings, author contacts, editing) are the responsibility of the Federal Institute.
