20th ERDN Conferenz in Vilnius

The 20th conference of the European Rural Development Network (ERDN) with the theme “Green Transformation in the European Rural Areas” took place from 11 - 13.9.2024 at the Lithuanian Center for Social Sciences, Institute of Economics and Rural Development in Vilnius. Contributions from institutions from Brazil, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and the Czech Republic dealt with various topics of rural development, such as Multi-Actor Innovation Platforms, Social Innovation, Remote Sensing for Water Retention, Living Labs, Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, Community Farming.

The BAB was also represented by Klaus Wagner and Heidi Grüneis and contributed the following topics:

“Livestock farming and land use: Demonstrating connections using the example of Austrian chicken fattening”, (H. Grüneis) and

“Clusters as approach to strengthen innovation, development and green transformation in the agri-food sector?”, (K. Wagner)

As part of an excursion, the participants were able to get to know rural development activities in Lithuania, e.g. farm diversification, conversion of a former commercial railroad for tourism purposes and cultural activities with product tastings and music.
