BAB 063/22: Communicating roots: co-learning to improve rural resilience and governance - CoROOTS (ERASMUS+ Projekt)

Initial situation

The project was applied for on the initiative of the Prout Research Institute in Portugal in order to enable a scientific exchange of co-learning approaches developed in research projects in recent years, to further disseminate these approaches in regional development, to implement them concretely and also to develop them further. The BAB will contribute its results from the H2020 projects SIMRA, RO-BUST and Liverur on the topics of social innovation and living lab approaches in business models in rural development. The cooperation partners will contribute their experience in rural proofing and methods for participation processes in local development.

Objectives

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of citizens and local organisations to participate in the elaboration of strategies for sustainable and ecologically resilient development. In concrete terms, the project aims to introduce local decision-makers to the issues of social innovation in the context of rural development using participatory approaches. Similarly, the four participating organisations will strengthen their capacities through mutual knowledge exchange on these issues.

Planned process and implementation

The Erasmus+ project has been approved to start in 10/2022. BAB will receive funding for 54 working days and for the planned travel to two workshops in Portugal and Spain respectively. CoRoots creates spaces for multidisciplinary joint learning by organising three workshops in ES, PT and AT to present, discuss and further develop good practices in social innovation and citizen participation in rural areas. Secondarily, space will also be given for more concrete discussions and cooperation between project collaborations. A jointly developed didactic guide will include current methods and good practice experiences for academia, public authorities and local actors. A final event at the end of the project will present the results to the public and further dissemination activities are planned.
