The Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) has been collecting economic data from farms for decades. With the reorientation of the EU agricultural policy towards more sustainability (ecology, biodiversity as well as the social dimension), the FADN is to be converted into an information network on agricultural sustainability (FSDN).
Objective
To assess the feasibility of collecting farm-level data for a range of sustainability issues, e.g. Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) objectives, Farm to Fork (F2F) and biodiversity strategies, and other sustainability indicators.
Describe a methodological approach for the efficient and effective collection of data at farm level for the above topics.
Develop possible strategies for the implementation of a common and harmonised methodology for the collection of sustainability data for all Member States, including a roadmap for the transformation of the current FADN into the FSDN.
Work carried out 2022
In cooperation with Department II/1 (Otto Hofer) and LBG (Franz Fensl), the questionnaire sent out by E-CORYS (contractor of the EU Commission) for the "Liaison Office" for Austria was answered and the interviews on 32 pilot farms according to the selection plan of ECORYS were carried out in joint consultation by LBG. The results were presented in November 2022.
Planned work 2023
The second phase of the project concerns the IT infrastructure and the current implementation of data collection for FADN in Austria. For this purpose, a questionnaire developed by ECORYS for all member states will be queried for Austria at the LBG in January 2023.
