BAB 004/87: Typology of Farms for the presentation of the economic performance of agriculture

The classification of agricultural and forestry holdings has the task of summarising holdings into groups that are as homogeneous as possible with regard to certain criteria. Only the greatest possible homogeneity of the farms in a group guarantees that representative statements can be made on the basis of average figures in the presentation of the economic situation of the agricultural sector. Since the 2010 agricultural structure survey, the direction of production and the economic size of a farm have been determined according to the composition of the standard outputs or the total standard output of an agricultural and forestry enterprise at NUTS 2 level.

Status of the project

After the classification of agricultural and forestry holdings in the INVEK-OS database was also implemented for special farm types in 2020, it has since been possible to carry out analyses for the purposes of various agricultural policy issues, among other things. The 2020 standard output coefficients were submitted in December 2023. In 2024, questions were answered by Eurostat/EK in the context of plausibility checks.

Work 2025

In 2025, the classification of INVEKOS farms will be updated based on the available area and livestock data for 2024. Various activities in connection with the classification of agricultural and forestry holdings (e.g. investment support for agricultural holdings or agricultural policy issues) will be carried out. If international working groups on the topic of ‘classification’ are set up, participation is planned.
