Mountain Areas Research and Regional Development
The Mountain Areas Research and Regional Development Department is concerned with structural analyses of rural areas taking into account the specific circumstances of mountain areas. Along with impacts of policy measures, historical developments, trends, potentials, innovations, economic, ecological and social aspects of sustainability and resilience are analysed to depict spatially different developments - always with a specific focus on the situation of mountain areas and other disadvantaged areas. The aim is to provide a scientific basis for agricultural and regional policy and thus positively influence regional development, (territorial) cohesion and social balance. The task is conducted in a national and international context as well as through interdisciplinary cooperation projects.
