The Mountain Research Initiative’s (MRI) Regional Mountain Conference 2026 took place in Obergurgl from 5 to 8 July 2026 and addressed current challenges and future prospects for mountain regions. It focused on sustainable development, climate change, tourism, biodiversity, and regional resilience. The international conference provided a platform for exchange between science, policy, and practice and promoted interdisciplinary dialogue on sustainable solutions for alpine regions.
In the presentation “Accessible Agritourism in Alpine Regions: Digital Pathways to Inclusive, Socially Responsible Farm-Based Tourism,” Alexander Plaikner, Katharina Weiskopf, Barbara Weiskopf, Verena E. Wieser, Marco Haid (UMIT Tirol), and Erika Quendler (Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics and Mountain Farming, BAB) presented new research findings on the development of inclusive and socially responsible agritourism. The presentation focused on how farms can make their tourist offerings more accessible to older people, people with disabilities, and families.
