On 21 October 2025, the kick-off meeting for the project ‘Situation of Female Farmers in Austria 2026: Analysis of Current Working and Living Conditions’ took place at the BAB. This study is commissioned by the BMLUK and is carried out as part of the gender equality evaluation of the GSP 2023–2027.
Otto Hofer from the BMLUK (Dept. II/1) chaired the event. Margarethe Schima-Tripolt (BMLUK/Dept. II/1) gave an initial overview of how the project fits into the evaluation of the GSP 2023-2027. The project team of the Study on Female Farmers 2026, consisting of Theresia Oedl-Wieser, Martina Schorn (BAB), Somaye Latifi and Katrin Hofer (BAB Project), then presented the study design and the main focus areas of the study. The focus of the study was discussed together with the steering group of the Study on Female Farmers which is made up of representatives from various institutions in the field of agriculture and gender equality, as well as representatives from scientific institutions. The steering group had the opportunity to ask questions and make valuable suggestions.
The project ‘Situation of Female Farmers in Austria 2026: Analysis of Current Working and Living Conditions’ aims to examine the living conditions of female farmers in Austria and to identify important issues, challenges and support needs for women in agriculture. This study has been conducted every 10 years since 1976 on the initiative of the Working Group of Austrian Female Farmers. The findings from the study will also serve as a basis for decisions on measures to improve the situation of female farmers in Austria.
This mixed methods study will be conducted from October 2025 to October 2026 by the BAB and BAB Project team led by Dr. Theresia Oedl-Wieser.
