From June 30 to July 2, 2025, the 28th Congress of the Austrian Sociological Association (ÖGS) took place at the University of Graz. Under the theme "The Climate of Society", the congress explored the current state of social climate and the role sociology can play in addressing the climate crisis.
Katrin Hofer and Somaye Latifi participated on the first day of the congress. The event was officially opened by Alexander Bogner, President of the ÖGS. The opening keynote lecture was delivered by Monika Krause, Professor at the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics, titled “With and Against Mannheim on the Contemporary Crisis of Thought.”
The Section for Rural Social, represented by Rike Stotten (University of Innsbruck) and Georg Wiesinger (BAB), organized three ad-hoc groups under the shared title: “Socio-ecological Transformation as a Social Project.”
In the second ad-hoc group, Katrin Hofer and Somaye Latifi presented a contribution on the conceptual framework of the ongoing SERIGO project, entitled: “Beyond Growth: The Role of the Social and Solidarity Economy in the Process of Just Transition.”
